Article: About me

About me

Hello everyone, for nearly a decade, you've known my work as bisqit.
I always wanted to create a high quality ceramic brand without egoistic tendencies for a long time I thought that means erase my self from that brand but you know what maybe that is not the right path.
As I was thinking about "motto" for my brand ... there was one sentence repeating in my head.
 - I CARE. -
And I really do, I love this craft, I care about every detail, I care about packaging and I care about you. I am passionate about my craft and I hope to evoke that same passion in all of you.
It's tough to distance yourself from a brand when your motto is "I CARE" that "I" got me thinking. To me, 'I CARE' embodies not just a sentiment, but a dedication to excellence in every aspect of my craft.
So... My name is Zuzana Firla.
I studied ceramics, porcelain at school of arts at Ostrava and product design at University of Tomas Bata in Zlin, Czech republic.
I've been captivated by ceramics since I was in primary school. It felt like magic - you'd create something, then the teacher would put it in a magic box, and suddenly it would be smaller and completely transformed. Magic, right?
Honestly, I sort of feel like this even today. No matter how much knowledge I carry, how many books I've read, each kiln opening is magical. This small excitement I adore, experimenting with colors, clays and glazes without knowing the exact result is captivating to me. I know the theory of what to expect from my experiment, but my theories are not always accurate. So only logical explanation is magic.
During my studies at School of Arts at Ostrava I developed passion for product design I thought maybe this will be my path. I love that fancy designer sketching, I really do. I do that even today just for myself.
I shifted from ceramics to product design, but after three years, I realized I missed it. I missed getting my hands dirty and got back to studie porcelain at University E. Purkyně however, my perspective changed, influenced by Professor Pavel Skarka who taught product design. I was stuck in between so I made my own path but still a clean, functional design is close to my heart, it's imprinted in me as you can see.
Now we begin, bisqit was born. My own path.
I think finding beauty in simplicity and finding joy in the small things in life is essential. Like discovering magic inside a kiln or opening a paper box to find your new cup.

Every collection you see on my site has a little story. Nothing unnecessary I don't like those marketing tales built on air. But something to let you know where my head was but with enough room for you to share your perspective, to make it yours.
Because ultimately these pieces belong to you, not me. I'll share a brief tale of their origin, but it's your choice how the story unfolds.
Maybe we can start a next decade little bit more personal and share those stories together.
I can't wait to see where this path takes us. I look forward to exploring this journey with you.

With love, yours Zuzana
